Per-email · Outlook

Outlook users:
your notes follow the email — even in Split View.

Outlook on the web keeps the open message id in the URL even in the reading pane, so a note can scope to one email and follow it as you click through.

The problem

A follow-up belongs to one email.
Your stickies don't know which.

You triage dozens of emails an hour. A follow-up note belongs to one message — but desktop stickies have no idea which email is open, so they sit there for everything or nothing. And in split view, most tools lose the thread entirely the moment you click to the next message.

How it works

Notes that follow the email,
not your inbox.

✉️

Per email

Outlook on the web puts the open message id right in the URL, so TackNote can scope a note to that exact email. Tack a follow-up to one message and it belongs to that message — not your whole inbox.

🪟

Even in Split View

Because the message id updates as you click through the reading pane, the right note follows the right email. Move from one message to the next and the note that belongs to each one shows up on cue.

↩️

Reveal reopens it

Open TackBoard, see a note, click Reveal — TackNote opens that exact message in Outlook. The note is the shortcut straight back to the email it belongs to.

What TackNote tracks in Outlook.

Outlook on the web is scoped by the message id in the URL path — so a note binds to one email and follows it as you read, including in the reading and split pane.

✉️

Per-email scope

Outlook on the web exposes the open message id in the URL, so a note binds to that one email. Open a different message and it stays put with the message it belongs to.

🪟

Follows in Split View

The message id updates as you click through the reading pane, so the right note follows the right email — even with the split/reading pane open. (Heads up: the desktop Outlook app scopes by folder/view, since it doesn't expose the open message.)

☁️

Cross-Mac sync

Web notes sync across your Macs through your own iCloud, encrypted. Tack a follow-up on one Mac and it's waiting on the other.

🔒

Private & on-device

Notes, voice memos, and transcripts live encrypted on your Mac. No cloud account, no tracking. Our only analytics is an anonymous version number, sent once on first launch.

Under the hood

Two Outlooks,
two mechanisms.

Outlook on the desktop and Outlook on the web are different applications wearing the same name, and neither hands over the open message the easy way. TackNote handles them separately rather than pretending they are one thing.

🖥️

Desktop: the title is parsed

Outlook's window title names the open email or the current folder, but not cleanly. TackNote strips the leading unread count, the (12) that changes every time mail arrives, and drops a trailing sender address so the key is the subject rather than the inbox state.

🌐

Web: the address bar lies

Outlook on the web blanks its own address bar to about:blank while the real message link lives on the page. Rather than give up there, TackNote recovers the true URL from the page itself, so web notes scope per message like any other page.

✉️

The note remembers the sender

An email note captures who it was from and when, so months later the note still says what it was about even if the message has been filed, moved or archived somewhere else.

The unread-count detail is a small thing that matters more than it looks. Leave it in the key and every note in Outlook comes unstuck the moment a new email arrives, because the window title just changed. Most of the work in scoping an app is finding the parts of a title that are noise.

"I tack a follow-up to one email and it follows that exact message through the reading pane. Right where the email is — never lost in the inbox."

Encrypted on your Mac

Private by design. Yours alone.

Every note is sealed with AES-256 encryption the moment you write it — the key lives in your Mac’s Keychain, never on a server. Switch on iCloud sync and your notes are encrypted on your Mac before they travel through your own iCloud. Apple holds the keys to that sync unless you turn on Apple’s Advanced Data Protection, which makes it end-to-end encrypted and readable only on your devices. No accounts, no trackers, no servers we control. Not even we can read your notes.
